Under permanent appropriations tho expenditure increased from in 1910-17 to £6,008,810 in 1917-18. Tho principal items were interest and sinking ■ fund, which increased from ,£4,014,701 to ,114,430,779; war pensions, from £180,165 to .1515,383, and old-age pensions, from .0453,085 to £012.403.
