AUSTRALIAN STEAMERS TORPEDOED

Subsequently additional particulars were made- uvailiiblo by the ActingPrime Minister (Mr. Watt). He stated that the steamer Australdale was torpedoed in October last, and shb sank quickly. She was outward bound from England. Tho chief officer's boat, containing 24 men, disappeared, and another man was lost by the. explosion, flip remainder of tho crew were rescued. The Australbush was lost in Novembe. last whilst in ballast. ' Tho third engin. eer and an ablo seaman became entangled in tho gear, and "were lost; but the other members of the crew were saved. i "It h understood (says tho "Sydney Morning Herald") that there were no Auslraliojis among thoso Jost; thero were no passengers on either vessel.
