FRANCE AND GERMANY IN SWITZERLAND
RIVAL BIDS FOR COAL TRADE. Paris, May 20. It is officially announced fhat Franco has offered Switzerland Sso,'ioo tons of coal a month at 150 frunes (M) per ton, against a, German demand for 180 francs (over £7). The Swiss Government originally welcomed tile offer, but •iltimatcly, under German pressure, refused it, and made fresh arrangements vith Germany. Notwithstanding this, France still keeps the offer open in order to avoid tho closing of factories, resulting ill misory for tho workpeople.
