REGISTERED LETTERS FOR THE FRONT

Sir, —In your issue of May 16 a paragraph appears stating that the Acting-Postmaster-Gonoml (the Hon. W. 1). !?■ Mac Donald) requests that letters posted

from New Zealand to members of the New Zealand Expeditionary Forces should bo enclosed in cloth-lined envelopes. Now, Sir, to my mind it should read "bo compelled" in lien of "requests,"' in order to protect both the sondor and addressed. It is surprising to find how a great majority of the general public are unaware of tho existence of these useful registered envelopes, ranging from the commercial ioiiii. by 3}in.) to foolscap (11} in. by Oin.) size. They arc strongly made, plciisaut to write upon, and completely prevent '.he i-ossi-bility of the letter being posted m,rogistered and unstamped, while the cost <:■£ tho smallest and most convenient sine fur personal correspondence is but id., or 2s. 6d. for 9, equal to one-third of a penny each, plus tho value of postage stamps attached. Then, fipeakhuj as an old philatelist, I say without fear ol contradiction the used envelope will be eagerly sought after and cherished by tho French ami English etamp-collectbg enthusiast. Thanking you,— i am, He, ' E. A. DANCE. Havelock, Afarlborough, May 17, 1918.
