Ada Reove at the Grand Opera House, Miss Ada Reeve met with a warm welcome at Iho Grand Opera. Miss Peggy Peat (ooubrotte) wore a pretty frock of royal blue ninon over white satin, finished with a large vivid pink rose at the waist, and, later, in the futurist comedy, aim appeared in a black and white frock, made with a corselet bodioc of black velvet and skirt of white ctepe de chine draped with black tulle. A dance for the benefit of the Thorndon baby was held in the Goring Street Hall on Saturday evening, tho organiser being Mrs. V. E. AYard, assisted by Mrs. Malcolm and Miss Millais. Cowley's Orchestra provided delightful music, and a successful evening resulted.

Social at Dyeiv!)lβ. A most successful gathering was held in tho Dycrville Hall on the evening <{ May 16 to welcome home Corporal (Jnsliolm, who returned from France by a recent draft. In addition to the guest of the evening there were present the following returned soldiers:—lt. and B. Tliomas, L. Harris", — Coinvay, — Martin, iD. Herrick, J. Blissil, D. Eenttie. Corporal Chisholm was wounded at tho Somme and later on at Passchondaelo. Everyono was very pleased to fiee him ; back safe and sound. The arrangements i for the evening were in the capable hands .' of Mrs, Gellio and Mr. and Mrs. Dawson. Songs were sung by Mr. D. Daydi. who also niado a short speech on behalf lof tho residents of DycrviHu. Mrs. I Nicholson supplied tho music for tho I dancing, and extras were played by Mesj dairies Smith and Envoy, and by' other I visitors present. The gathering broko up soon after midnight. Women's National Reserve, The annual meeting of the Lyall Fay Branch of tho above was held on 'J ueaday afternoon, Mrs. Porter (organising secretary) prosidiug. Tho various activiI ties in which the branch had engaged j were mentioned in tho report, notably tho Red Cross, the reunions of mothers, ■the Y.M.C.A., ote. Tho excellent voluntary clerical work done by Miss Frances was also mentioned. Work for thn coming year was discussed, and sub-com-inite-s 'uimwl. The following were elected:—President, Mrs. Morrali; viccpresk'rtit, Mrs. Wicks; secretary, Miss Lily Frances; treasurer, Miss Jenkyiis; committee, Mosdames Kigg, Shephordson. Result of the Maori Baby Day, Lady Liverpool's and Mrs. Pomare's Maori Soldiers' Fund Committee thank t'Uu numerous uiid generous donors of gifts from Otaki> l.'orirua, Lower Hutt, Petone,' and tho city. They also wish to thank tho many helpers and (he public for the whole-hearted, liberal, and practical way in which they assisted to make the day tho success it was. The amount realised by moans of tho Otaki [loi ilancci'ci and singers, the stalls, raffles, and tickets was .£Bl. which will go towards the Maori baby, No. 7, in aid of the Red Cross and Red Jersey.
