Among those who Were Btopped Was the Mayor of Lyttelton; who made an unavailing protest' against the exclusion of the. next-of-kin. A number of those who had gone to Lyttelton to aieet relatives were able to return-'to Christchurch' in time to meet the soldiers on arrival, but others missed the opportunity, and were' much disappointed, they were not permitted to . travel by tne soldiers 1 train.
