Lieutenant Dall is ii son of Mr. G. B. Dall, Assist-ant-Secretary Post and Telegraph Department, Wellington.
Mr. H. D; Bates, of Wanganui, ha 6 received a cable message informing him of the death of his father, Colonel H. Strat. toii Bates, at. his home, "Lnngstons," Al-r-sford. Hamnshir". England. Tho late Colonel Stratton Bates took a. great inIwi'st in connection with tho New Zenlam! soldiers'. welfare. numbers.of whom accepted the hospitality of liis home. He saw most of the fighting with the Imperial troops here in the early 'sixties as a young olicer, being for some time attached to-General Cameron's staff in tho Waikato, and later on as aide-de-camp to Sir George Grey' at Auckland. Colonel Bates is the .last of the officers of the 65th Regiment who served'in-New Zealand.
