DEATH OF DR. TOLHURST

KILLED IN ACTION.

. Goneral and widespread regret will be experienced at the news of the death of Dr. A. M. Tolhurst, N.Z.M.C., who was killed in action on May 8 whilst in tlio porformanco of 'his duties. Dr. Alexander Molesworth Tolhurst, M.R.C.S., L.R.C.P. (London), who for some years practised in Courtonay Placo (Wellington), was n son of Mr, G. E. Tolhurst, of Grant Road, n well-known and highly respected citizen of Wellington, and for many years chief inspector for New Zealand of tho Union Bank of Australia.

The Into Dr. Tolhurst was bom in Wellington In July, 18S1, mid was educated at Wellington College He studied medicine at Guy's Hospital, London, and took his degree in IMG. Soon after qualifying he received tho appointment of resident medical officer to a largo agricultural settlement at Komombo, nonr Assuan, Egypt. After n year's service there- he proceeded to England, whoro ho took further medical and roturned to Wellington in 1910 ana! practised his profession. Ho enlisted in May, 1915, for foreign service, and was divortcd for duty to the hospital ship Maheno on hor first commission, returning with the ship, and subsequently leaving ngnin with the Maheno on hor second oharter as n member of the medical Btaff. JJo transferred from the hospital ship to the Expeditionary Forces in England, and later went to Franoe. Dr. Tolhurst practised his profession for some years in" Wellington, where he was highly estoomed for his kindly nnturo and professional skill.

Dr. Tolhurst has left a widow and two young children, who are at present in England. His brother, Lieutenant 71. M. Tolhurst, barrister and solicitor, enlisted as a private in 1915, and is now an officer of the No. 1 N.Z. Divisional Employment' l Company, on actira eervioa in France.
