The Victoria College Council last night decided that Mr. F. P. Wilson be appointed Lecturer in History and Commercial Geography at a salary of ,£SOO per year. It was also decided that, tho council advertise for a Lecturer in Economics at a salary of ,£3OO per year—a war appointment. Both, appointments are to date from July 1.
A Press Association message from Thames, states that the death occurred yesterday of Mr. Thomas Jackson, for many years in the employ of the Borough' Council, and twelve years foreman of •works, aged 73. Deceased was an old resident of Thames, and was associated .with Hunt in the Khotover rush in tho 'early days.
Lieutenant-Colonel W. R. Peerless (D), M.R.C.S., Eng., Captain P. L. Atkinson, M.8., and Lieutenant (temp. Captain) L. II Booth, M.8., all of the New Zealand Medical Corps, have, been appointed members of special district medical boards,

The demise of Mr. H. H. Metcalfo marked the death of tho second consulting engineer retained by the Gisborno BoTongh Council in connection with water augmentation and sewerage and'electrical extension schemes recently undertaken. The first, Mr.'?.• J. Fenn, electrical engineer, of Auckland, was drowned whilst bathing in Hie Waikato River a few weeks ago.

Cabled advice . was received on Monday, states the Christeliurch "Press," of the death in Ebndon of Dr. , \V. Beresford Robinson, formerly of Christchurch. Dr. Robinson, who was the elder son of Mr. WillHm Robinson, of Riccarton, was an old boy of the Boys' High School, where he was captain of the Cadets and senior monitor. Be went to London in 1907 to study medicine at Guy's, and after a brilliant career as a student he became president of the resident staff. Prior to the war he was practising in Surrey, but he volunteered for military duty, and was appointed officer in charge of tho offic.ers' hospital at the 2nd London General Hospital m Chelsea. It was while on this duty! that he contracted the ■ illness ■ of which he died.' His brother, Lieutenant E. A. Robinson, Tecontly returned invalided to -Now Zealand. Dr. W. B. Robmsqn, who was 23 years of age, jeaves a wile and one child.

Rifleman John Stanley Boyce (killed, in notion) was tho second son of Mr. David Boyce, "Clarcniont," Amberley, and left New Zealand on Jury 16, 1911, as a sergeant with tho Twenty-seventh Reinforcements. His ago was 21 years. With his elder brother, Selwyn D T. Boyco he was a well-known exhibitor of 'horses, and gained a very large number of prizes in all tho principal shows in Canterbury with tho champion horses Banner and l'en. •

Liontcnant Keith Little, of Wellington, who wont away with tho Main Body on General God'.e'y's clerical elan", returned to Wellington yesterday. Lieutenant Little went away from New Zealand as a sergeant, and went thro'ißh the Gftllipoli campaign, until struck down by ontorid fever. After recovering In Egvpt ho went forward with Uio Zealand Furce9 lo England, and as statT-Bcrgeant-major occupied a responsible position at Sling Camp for ,?yer a year. Ho sat for a commission 'net year and passed with credit, went over to I ranee, and in his first action was shot in the left arm. On his recovery ho'went back, lo tho front in tho worst of Uio Euro. Man winter, and was forced to go back „ England with "trench feet. £«»■ tenant Little is still on crutches, bo ng eta; Affected in one foot, but hie affliction is slowly yielding to treatment.
