HUTT COUNTY COUNCIL
The monthly meeting of tho Ilutt County Council was hold yesterday, there boing present Councillors J. Whitcinan (chairman), W. J. Howell, AV. Galloway, M. H. Wolch, G, Cooper, and P. Cavanagh.
The report of tho Inspector of Works (Mr. J. W. Cudby) statod that a orutc of wire and stone had been put in to divert the courso of tlii> river near tho western approach to tho Pultaraluhi Bridge, where erosion recontly took place. The Akatarawa track on tho eastern sido had been totally blocked by fallen timber, but he believed the traok was now cleared to the saddle. A suggestion was made that the council should tnuko application to tho Wellington Harbour Board to have the restrictions in regard to the removal of shinglo from the senbench below high-water mark at Day's Bay or other bays in tho locality, removed, as tho enforcement of tho embargo would mean a considerable increase ill the cost of maintenance of the Lowry Bay-Day's Bay, Road. Wire and slono crates are to be placed at two different points where the Mungakotu Kutuku River had dnproached upon the road, in order to turn' tho stream back into its old ohannel. In l tho course of his report tho county ranger (Mr. R. C. Dick) stated that 21 head of cattle had been seized on the county roads. Accounts amounting to Ji9!is His. wero passed for payment. The statement of accounts showed that the following sums had been spoilt in tho soveral ridings during tho month of April—Epuni, .£9l 10s. 3d.; Horokiwi, ,£236 Os. 7d.; Mungaroa, .£lB2 55.; Wnimii-o-mata, .£B6 19s. 2d.; and Whareroa Hiding, .Clll 6s. 9d.
