MEETING; Or THE COUNCIL. Tho fortnightly meeting , of tho Itarori Borough Council was held last evening. Tho Mayor (Mr. .B. G. H. Burn) presided, and there were present: Councillors W. Skegg, T. W. -xwei, R. L. Tingey, K, T. Pell, H. ■&■ Dryden, W. G. Bradnock, J. Mackenzie, ;nd J. W. Henderson. .. .. . Notico was received from the Wellington Hospital and Charitable Aid Board of two cases of diphtheria within the borough. .Ono ense had recovered; and the other was in hospital. Tills Wellington Hockey Association \vroto agreeing to tho terms and conditions with respect to the rental of Karori Park.. Tho rental- was fixed at £U} per annum Oil an annual lease. - Tho Karori School Committee wrote asking for' financial assistant to enable the school to participate in tho Wellington Sohool library ichen.e. Tho matter was referred -to. tho I'inanco Committee. Tho Onslow Borough Councils cireu'lav inviting tho local bodies interested to send delegates to a conference to fully consider the increase in (lie Wellington Hospital Board levies was discussed. It was decidual r o accept the invitation, and the Mayor and' Councillor Henderson were. appsiatcd delegates to the confeicnc'3, with Co inoillor Sltegg to take tho place of Counoilbr Henderson, should tho latter bo unable to attend.. Tho Mayor pointed out. chat while he agreed that the local bodies concerned should discuss (he matter, the increase was inevitable in view of the advance in the'prices of-drugs i,.nd materials, and tho defection of some of the local Iwdies. Comparing Wellington -with Auckland, lie pointed ;.ut 'hat l Auckland received a subsidy of 19s. 3d., while Wellington received only IBs,. 3d. He oxpressed tho opinion that the Hospital was'spending money out of rovenue that rightly belonged to capital expenditure, and greater care was being taken in this. Tho' collection of fees from Hospital patients was a difficult matter, and this also was receiving the special attention of the board. The engineer, in his report, stated that he had received a pait of the plant for making tar macadam, but had no labour to fix it up- in the .bhed.
