MR. LLOYD GEORGE'S ACTIONS

NAPIER CITIZENS' APPRECIATION. By Telecr&ph—Brcss 'Association. Napier, liny M, ! A large number of Napier business men, also several ladies, assembled at t|i» Borough Council Chambers this afternoon as a result of the calling of a meeting for the purpose of passing. somo resolution of appreciation and approval of ths actions of Mr. Lloyd George, Premier of England.

_ Tho Mayor explained that the objcot of tho meeting was to pass a motion of support to the English Premier, who was doing so much to direct the Empire ia this great world struggle.

Mr. P. S. M'Lean said they all recognised in Mr. Lloyd George a great leader. Mr. Lloyd Goorga had first to fight tho democrats; secondly lie had had a lonff Gght in the House of Commons, where thoso of antagonistic feeling seemed' indifferent to ttie welfare of the country. Still these troubles came np, and this meeting was to approve his Inst victory. In thp last few months he had breasted two serious attacks—one by Mr. Asquitli, who made n seemingly unanswerable speech, and the second, a nioro serious attack, by Major-General Maurice, whoso charge was ono of falsehood, fraud, and wilful imposition. A motion _of appreciation from such a democratic country as this would bo of perhaps greater value to the Premier than from any other coutitvv. Ho then moved as follows : "We, (he the citizens of Napier, desire to express our whole-hearted appreciation of vour non-paity efforts in tho conduct of'this war. We have viewed with admiration vour exertions, which wo tnißt will bo allowed to continue until victory is attained." The motion -vas put by the Mayor, and carried unanimously, amidst acclamation. '■ The Mayor then suggeste-l that the lnfr tion shnuid be forwarded to the Premier of England. The motion was carried, and a collection taken up to pay the cost of tlifi cablegram, which is boing sent to Sir James Allen for dispatch.
