In the Supreme Court Mr. Justice Cooper qUashed the sentence of two months' imprisonment passed by Mr j!'razer, S.M., 011 Walter Preston, on February S, on a. charge that, being a bookmaker, lie did bet on the Takapunu course. The ground of appeal was that tho conviction was against tlio weight of evidence. His Honour said the case was highly suspicious, but the evideuen had not established that degree of comparative certainty that would have enabled him to hold that Preston actually <lid bet on the day in question.
