GO ON WITH THE WAR
FRENCH PREMIER'S POLICY. "You aiunot silence Prussian militarism by bleating about peace," exclaimed M. Clemonceau, tho French Premier, in a debate in tho Chamber of Deputies in which the Government wits accorded a voto of confidence by 400 votes to 75, the laTgest majority since its formation. Nominally raised concerning certain supposed irregularities in connection with tho dossiers of tho 8010 trial, tho debate ranged over tho whole field of French policy. Tho aged Premier was never in bettor form, ironical and gravo by turns,, and by his white-hot patriotism, purged nowadays of all tho dross of party spirit, riveting tho attention of his Socialist foes on tho essential fact that tho war can bo won only by fighting. "I shall go on with the war,' ho declared, "and I shall oontinue it till tho last quarter of an hour, because it is wo who will win tho last quarter of an hour." Turning to the Socialist leaders, MM.' Thomas and Ronaudel. ho said: "Tho working class is not your property. Your hands are not rnoro horny than mine. I am sorry for you, but you belong to tho middle class the same as I. You are always talking nlwut war aims, but go and ask tho Germans what theirs are! Wo know what they are—Poland, Livonia, and the Ukraine under tho liccl of tho oonquoror. My homo policy is to go on with tho war and ray foreign policy is to go on with the war.
