LORD COURTNEY. London, May 13. Lord Courtney is dead—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn. TTbe Et. Hon. Leonard Henry Courtney, Ist Baron Courtney of Pemvith, was born at Penzance in 1832. He was educated at Cambridge (2nd Wrangler), and called to the Bar at Linnoln's Inn. Erom 1572 to 1875 ho was Professor of Political Economy at University College, London; ISSO-Sl, Under-Secretary of State for tho Home Department; 1881-82, Colonial Office; Financial Secretary to tho Treasury till ISM; Chairman of Committees nnd Deputy-Speaker 18SG-1892. He has been a largo contributor to the "Times" and tho "Nineteenth Century." |
