The mutter wae held over till after the council a , annual visit of inspection. Miss Norn Knight, of J/>wer Unit, was appointed assistant clerk. '1 he borough engineer (Mr. John Gard»h) reported as follows;— Gas consumption: During the month i>l April the amount of gas purchased from Pfct.one was 1,166,000 cmulc [eel. Tins Jimount purchased during the corresponding month of last year wn.s 1,230.01)0 cubic feet, showing an increased i'unpuinpliou of 230,00(1 cubic feet. The flinqunt of' gas sold anil accounted for during the month of March is as follows:—.Domestic, 1,070,700 cubic, foil; power, 101,800 cubic, feet; street ligliling, 71.800 cubic feet. Total accounted for. i» 1.24-1.300 cubic, foot; unaccounted for, 107.-700 cubic feet, or 7.90 per cent. Gas and water (Connections: Two counections were made with tjie. %iis mains and ono with the water mams durinz the mouth.

Cleaning creeks: 'J'lin jliddlemarsh, Waiwetu Road, imd Hossilcr Avenue Road Creeks have heen cleaned; the men arc now engaged in cleaning the Black Creeir. » Septic tanks: On Thursday afternoon, May 9, Br. Watt (District Health Oflicor), made an inspection of the septic tanks nntl outfall pipes. He recommends the'cleaning out of (ho tanks during the coming winter; tyerytlung otherwise seemed satisfactory.
