Taking part wore Eik Liardot, Kene Johnson, Lola Saunders, Jean Mackenzie (successful competitor in the Christchuroh ■Competitions), Sinclair Dreen, Clarice iieid, Clara Nicholls, Ngaifo Dowsbury, and F, Hymnn, all of whom woro pretty frocks in keeping with their parts, ■ Other contributors lveres Afr. Garden Party at the Hutt. tin Saturday afternoon a garden party for tho benefit of liio Hutt and Petono Baby's candidature .was held in tho grounds of Mrs. Series's ; tosidence at the Hull. Stalls for the sale of produce, sweets, fancy goods, etc., wore piace-d upon tho vornndah and vrero w'eil patronised. Among those who were present wore Mrs, W. 1 ,, . Massoy and Miss Fraser, and in answer to a request Mius Fraser made- a brief speech in which the explained the organisation of tho Baby Competition, and urged that everything possiblo should be (ions to assist the cuuso, which was to benefit the Kod Cross and Kcil Jersey funds'. An informal concert, tho programme for which had been arranged by Air. Chapman, was hold in the house, Mrs. Leijjhton, Miss Zita Chupman, and others contributing. In charge of Iho stalls were tho following:— Fancy stall, .Mm. Yeatcs, .Miss Sogers; cakes 7 Mrs! Cooko and Mips Hay ward) Bwoots, throe little girls (Ednu Harris, Irene Smith, and May Bobertson). Tho produce stall was in charge of two boys— Geoffrey Jarman and — Itigliton. In charge of (he afternoon tea (which was arranged inside) woro Miss Scales and Mrs. Koberl.son. Asa result of thu afternoon the sum of JC2S was taken, trliich will go for votes for the baby.

Danco For the piiinkot Baby, On Saturday evening a dance in aid of tho Plunket baby, in connection with tho fortlicoming baUy competition, was held in the Goring Street 11011, and was attended with much success. With lan excellent lloor and music provided by Hi , . Williams a very enjoyable evening was spent and the candidature of the Plunket baby should benefit to a satisfactory extent. A vory enjoyublo dance was held in tho Alexandra, Hall on Saturday evening, the organisers of whioh were a committee consisting of the Misses Gilniour, Hickey, Israel, M'lnernoy (2), Messrs, Bamfield, Lusk,- Mulholland, M'Donald, O'Sullivnn, and Wilkes. The hall had been very prettily decorated for the occasion and moat inspiriting music was eupplied by Cowley'e orchestra. Among those present wero several soldiers from tho camps. Mr. .V. O'Sullivan. was the secretary.
Tlie diamond wedding was celebrated on Wednesday, May 8, of Mr. and Mrs. W. Lane, of Christchurch, a. large gathering of rolativos and friends being present on tho gccasion. Mr. and Mrs. Lane havo their origin in. old Devonshire families, and wevo married at Trinity Church, Exetor, England, in the year 1858. They arrived in New Zealand nearly fifty years ago, and have a family of eight children and thirteen grand* children, a number of the latter being on activo sorvice.' Many congratulations weru received from old- friends."
