TRAMWAYS' POWER HOUSE DISPUTE
_-j THE UNION'S CLAIM. In' connection with the industrial dispute between the Wellington Tramways and Electric Light Powerhouses Employees' Union and the Wellington City Council, the following claims have been made by the Workers' Union:— Wages.—Leading firemen, lis. per shiit; greasers, 14s.'j assistant firemen, lus.; boilermakers' mates, Vis. (id.; haudy men, 12s. 6d.; trimmers, 12s. Gd, Dirty work: All men inside cho boilers or at economisers, super-heaters, cleaning drums, etc.. or other dirty work, to be paid at the rate of is. 10d. per hour ordinary time; men employed cleaning main iluo to be paid 2s. per hour ordinary rate. Skill Work.—A full shift shall consist of eight hours. All time worked over eight hours iii any one shift to be classed as overtime. A full week's work shall consist of six shifts of eight hours' each. Sunday work: All work done between the hours of 12 midnight on Sunday to bo paid at the rats of doublu ordinary time. ' Call Back Duty.—Men called bac'- for duty between 8 a.m. and 7 p.m. to receive a minimum of three hours at time and a half rate. Men called buck for duty between 7 p.m. and S a.m. to receive a minimum of four hours at double time. Hours of Work—Men employed on shift work: The shifts shall be Ironi S a.m. to i p.m.; i p.m. to 12 midnight; 12 midnight to 8 a.m. All shifts to bo changed on Thursday of each week, For men not employed on shift work, 4tt hours to constitute a full week, a break of ono hour for the midday meal. On Saturday the hours to be 8 a.nj. to 12.30 p.m. Rate of Overtime.—For all classes of work the rate for overtime shall be time and a half. Holidays—Besides the ordinarily recognised holidays, certain annual holidays are demanded. 'Detailed statements of the number of men on a shift are sot forth. Accidents.—Should any' worker meot with an accident during the course of his employment, he shall receive per week a sura e<iual to his average weekly wages during the period of incapacity. A preference clause is included, and not less than one week's notice of the termination of employment shall bo given by either employer or employee.
