SALVATION ARMY FINANCE

HIGH PKAISfi ¥OH SYSTEM OF ACCOUNTB-KEEHNU.

In a letter to Mr. L. 0. H. Tripp, chairman of the Itwi Jeraay Appeal campaign, Mr. Ernest Hunt, of tho accountoncy firm of Watkins, Hull, Hunt, and Wheeior, pays a high compliment to tat! system by wihieli the funds of the Salvation Army uro controlled. "I think," says Mr. Hunt in his letter, "it would prove of interest to yourself und others who are working for the Red Jersey Appeal to have iniormution' as to the spieudid system of accounts and administration of the Salvation Army in New Zealand. TJio financial operation of the Salvation Army first came under my notice in 1812, when separate financial control was established, and my firm were appointed to undertake a complete continuous audit. The books had just been opened and tho accounts organised (on a system uniform with tho accounts of tho Army :n other parts of tho world) under the personal supervision of Colonel Arthur Bates, of London, the official staff auditor of the Salvation Army, who came to Now Zealand for that purpose. "I can say without Hesitation that the financial administration, organisation and accounting system of tho Army compares more than favourably with that of tho best and most up-to-date business houses in this Dominion. In course of my duties I have audited all the war funds of the Salvation Army, and havo found t'hat tho saue carefnl administration and excellent system has, throughout, been applied to these funds. In this connection it is particularly interesting to note that absolutely no administration expenses itre charged against any of theso war funds, all work being carTied out by tho regular officers of tho Army, and their salary and expenses charged against the general fund. Judged by tho very careful and- economical manner in which the numerous Army institutions are supervised and managed throughout this Dominion, I feel sure Chat the public may rely upon all money subscribed by them oeing utilised vitltout deduction or waste for the purpose for which it ie contributed."
