In the Magistrate's Court to-day, befar* Mr. Held, S.M., iuartha Hutclmis, formerly clerk to ihe WbodviUe County Council, pleaded suilty to charges of stealing sums aggregating .£565 from the council. The total amount of th odefalcalione was over £1200,. but was re-, iluced to the amount stated by deductions of sums appearing in the books as having been received, but were not received. The books were in a most chaotic state, causing the Government Auditor great trouble and wcete of hard unravelling. The accused was committed to the Supreme Court at Wellington for sentence. Bail was fixed at self £300 and two others of ..£3OO each.
