MEETING OF BOROUGH COUNCIL.ilio Miramav Borough Council met last night. Present; the Mayor (Mr. V. Townsend), Councillors S. H. Underwood, W. 11. Green, and H. K. Robcrtshaw. The borough engineer reported that following on the increase in the number of dwellings in the borough, the time occupied in the collection of refuse had naturally increased abo. Five years ago the work took one man Bi hours per week; three years later it had risen to 13 hours; and now it was 19J hours. With a view to reducing the time of collection, reducing the amount to bo collected, inducing householders to provide proper receptacles, and generally to effect a considerable saving in the cost of the service, he recommended that householders bo notified that on and after June 1 all rubbish bins must be placed, on the day of collection, within 10ft. of the section boundary, -ithenvise they would not bo emptied. The recommendation was adopted. Several ratepayers wrote requesting the council to form a permanent road, in Campbell Street. The Mayor pointed out that the state of the borough fnances did hoc permit of the work being, undertaken at the present time, sind, in addition, the population in that locality was not large enough to warrant it. After discussion it was decided to form a 10ft. footpath in Campbell Street, a permanent level to be struck.
