PICTURE CONCERT AT THE CROWN THEATRE
Through tho courtesy and consideration of the management of the Drown Theatre t);e rommittee of the Press Baoy Fund were enabled to give the public a. delightful entertainment last evening. Thei theatre was crowded before 8 p.in., and. many attended who wore unable to Dud. seats, a certain judication that the fund will benefit materially. The entertainment comuieucod with a short concert, programme by local artists, whose efforts were greatly anniteiatcd. in orchestra, conducted by Mr. Harry Tombs, played tho ovorture to Mozart'B almost forgotten, opera, "Don Juan," Brahm's 'Hungarian Dance" (No. D. the dainty "Intermezzo' (Delibes), and Paderewski's "Melody." Mr. Leo Duckeridge revived that hue old £ong„ "Plymouth Sound," and., for an encore,, gave humourous expression to "The bltiiipcrß of »t. Ives." lie was also associated, with Miss Rita Moylan m the duet,. "Laugh, Little Kiver," which also earned a recall. Miss Moylan. a young pinger new to the platform, exhibited, a vibrant soprano voice of even quality over a big. rauge, and one capablo of development m the finer graics of vocalism. Sne sang "If Love and I No'er Meet" and Damon. Variation was lent the programme by tho ouaint recitations of Miss Mary Butler who gave humourous point to lh» American Girl," "Baby Kibbons, ami, when recalled, "Tho Amorous Frenchman. Miss B. F. Chatflcld provided the aecom"ThTfemainder of the evening w-as occupied by the serening of that admirable nhoto-play. "My Old Dutch." which runs, the whohf gamut of Ooster life in London, and gves Mr. Albert Chevalier the pioneer of Coster sentiment in song the opportunity to show his skill m tho interrelation of Coster character. Appropriate inline, consisting of the album o Coster songs, popularised in the English. musiV-haUs by Mr. Chevalier, were r.pproprintcly fitted to the various scones by Miss Chatfield.
