THE HOPE OF FRANCE

France is keenly awako to her. national needs. In tho midst of her care for tho 6oldiei' and tho other enormous war responsibilities with which she is overburdened, the has yet found time to consider the welfare of the children of her people—the young generation rising up to fill tho gaps made in her civil lifo by tho terrible demands of battle.

According to iable messages received recently (states a writer ill a Sydney newspaper), Paris dispatches state that arrangements are being made to remove 100,(100 children of the poorer classes from Paris, to avoid enemy action. Hundreds of these children are douotless orphans, the children of fallen soldiers, of mothers fighting their bitter battle alone, of forsaken woman, and the action of the Government in thus endeavouring to protect them is in itsolf an earnest of the maternal care with which the counUy is safeguarding her own future resources and the interests of her neople.
