NEW ZEALAND SOLDIERS
NUMBERS RETURNED AND THE TOTAL FORCE. By Telegraph.—Presa Association. Auckland, May 8. Up to the end of last month the total number of soldiers who have returned to Now Zealund was 19,811, bald Sir James Allen to-day. Of that number 569 were officers and had been gazetted out of the Expeditionary Forces. Of tho men, 14,080 had been discharged from th» Main Body and reinforcements, and 1243 from the Sauioan Foroe, while 1613 nave returned to duty. Fifty-eight returned men have died while under control of the Defence Department, 596 are ■ mipatienta under treatment at hospitals and convijescent hoinuti, and 521 are outpatients, 203 on nick leave, 249 awaiting discharge, SO awaiting to return to duty, and 86 on special leave. Five men have deserted from tho Forces since returning rtiul threo returned men are now in prison. Up to tho present about 93,000 men have actually loft New Zealand-with the Expeditionary Forces, while the men (it present in training would swell the number to rather more than 98,000.
