THE RED JERSEY APPEAL
NOVEL "DRIVE" O\ T SATURDAY. A strong and mobile force, consisting of 90 residents cf the eastern suburbs, under the leadership of Mr. J. J. Clark, of Evans Bay, and four brass bands, will deploy on Saturday for tho purpose of conducting a raid in the interests of the Red Army. The technical term for this military junnocurre is a "drive," and the idea is that in a selected locality—the name is not to bo divulged, but'no locality, will bo too select for tho purpose—every house will bo visited. The houscholdc-i , , on being summoned by a herald, with ft fanfare of trumpets—about M trumpets— will be asked in fair lernis to buy an artillery card, which will be decorated with a red jrun and other symbols. If h;- agrees to the propositon nil will bo well. Tho band will play a cheery tune and pass on to the next house, after warning .the purchaser to exhibit his card prominently, as a safeguard against further raids, if he refuses, the, threat held out is that the four "bands will all play different tunes nt the samo timo until Ire capitulates. The people of Wadcstoirn, with tho assistance of the postmen of the district, will shortly have tho importnnce <if their suburb as o position suitablo for a. Blue gnu impressed upon them. A meeting was held on Monday night, Jlr. Wiffen, chairman of the school committee, being in the chair, for the purpose of deciding what, action this patriotic suburb shall take j-ii the Red and Blue battle. Mr. ,T. H. IMiiwell addressed the gathering, and explained the rules of the game, also warning, Ilin residents that if they (iid i.ot "drive" through their own suburb, some othfr gun'crews would do it for them. Quite iipart from this threat, W.idestown appeared to be keen on the flintier, and another meeting is to be i'eld on Thursday to select <i trim position, and rrtace n gun there.
