A THOUSAND TURKS TAKEN IN A FEW DAYS. London, May 6. The British captured a thousand Turks nnd Germans in Palestine in a few days. Tho British liavo retired from Es Salt to the Jordan.—Aus.-N.Z. An official report from Palestine states: "Our advanced troops, who wore holding Essalt, have been withdrawn over tho Jordan; a strong detadhiuont remaining on the eastern banks for sivcuring the crossing. We captured castward of the Jordan between April 30 and May 4 one German aud 45 Turkish officers, and 42 Germans and 843 Turks of other Tanks, 29 machine-guns, and six motor lorries, besides inflicting casualtics exceeding our own. The King of Hojaz's forces, on May 3, attacked Turkish parties which were Working at tho Wadi Jerdun railway station, northward of Mann, taking twenty-fivo prisoners and seriously damaging tho line." -•Aus.-N.Z.-Eontor.
