Captain Petersen, who leaves hiß shipat Dunedin and begins his duties at Wellington on June 1, is only 32 years of age. He is a native of Victoria, and-his father waß horn in England. He qualified.for an officer in sailing ships, serving for six years as first niato of the brigantinc Zephyr, and second mate on the barque Onyx. He joined the Union Company's service on October 8, 1907, as third officer. Ue passed through all tho grades as an officer on several of the company's fltcamers, and was appointed master of the Karamu on February 10, 1916. -He took command of the Tc Anau on November ;4, 1916. and has had charge.of that vessel over sliice.
