Sydney Street Soldiers' Club. Yesterday aflcrnuou and evcniiiK tlio Sydney Struct Soldiers' Club was a very populur placo, a great many soldiers wlm arc at; tho present time visiting Wellington being euturtained there. Airs. \V. Young, assisted by tlie committee, was tlio hostess, and everyone was exceedingly busy ultendin;! tu tlio needs of the visitors. Tlie large common-room was practically luwiotl into a tea-room for the time being, and relay after relay of soldiers wuro entertained at tea there as well as in the tea-room. Afterwards tlie soldiers amused themselves with music, reading, writing letters, etc., and much appreciation of tho hospitality shown tlium was c'xpri'ssed. Mrs. Massey (president) assisted with the entertainment of tho visitors.
Women's National Reserve. • There was a good gathering of_ soldiers' wives and families at the AVivcs' Club on Friday afternoon. The hostesses were Mesdamcs Betliune, White, Manson and Kirk. Tho Rev. Archibald Hunt delighted all with two very enjoyable recitations. Mrs. Seville, of Ilatailni, spoko upon tho coming children's party, which is to bo given by tho W.N.R, to all tho children of the various orphanages and homes in and around AVelliugton, on Saturday, May 11. A very excellent programme is arranged' and a number of people have offered refreshments, so that .all promises well for tho enjoyment of tho littlo ones. Tho object is twofold, as every ticket means another vote for ' the _ group of babies nominated by tho AY.N.R. A Yaukeo tonnis tournament, organised by Miss Massey, was played on the Kolburn Tennis Club courts yesterday for tho benefit of the Plunket baby in
he forthcoming baby competition. There rere several entries, and a. very pleasant ay was spent, the weather- being all hat could havo been wished. There will bo special attractions in the way of cakos mado by. sonic of the most expert ladies in Wellington, ansl over forty pound cakes specially made to send to soldiers are promised. Miss Cooper ' and Miss Moss - will have their usual sale of flowers, for which contributions will bo gladly received. Tlio New Zealand Nurses' Memorial Fund has just received ,£SO from the North Taranaki Patriotic League. Subscribers will be glad to know that the JCSOOO, collected for this fund to date, has been invested in the War Loan.
