CITY TRAMWAYS
ALTERATION IN THE SERVICE. For the first timo since the service, was commenced tho Seatoun cars travelled, to and from town by way of Constable. Street and Newtown instead of via tue Mount Victoria tunnel from yesterday morning. This had the effect of considerably relieving tho tunnel line, which ha» had demands made upon it during theiiast summer almost up to its capacity, with the result (the track through beiiji; a singlo onej that cars were frequently hung up at ono end or tho other for two or there minutes. A good deal of objection was made by tho Seatoun. people to tho alteration of the route, but on yesterday's running the sta.emont made by the tramways manager Mr. W. H. Morton) that the lournsy would only tako from two to three minutes longer via Constablo Street' was found to bo correct, the time-table being kept with tho exception of one I ip, when a Seatoun car getting away two minutes lato was further delayed bv•having to run behind ono of tho old doub.edecked cars. . , „ With tho change in time-table tho Hataitai people are likely to benefit, as the Tinakori Road cars, instead of fimsnin. at Courtcnay Place, will run on lolla. taitai, and can therefore be regarded ..8 cars for Hataitai traffic only. Karori has been given Instead of a twenty minutes' rush hnir and forty minutes' Black. hour service, that suburb will now emoy an even twenty minutes' service right to tho Borough Council oßices. The laying down of the extra track in Cuba Sto/has given the traffic manager Mr M'fiillvrav) a great deal ot leliet, that route considerably in point ot lime occupied on the journey.
