ANOTHER ATTEMPT ON THE HILL CHAIN BIG BATTLE ON THE ITALIAN FRONT NEW WAR ON THE U-BOATS The news from the West to-day bears all the signs of another German attack on tho bill chain west of Mont Kemmel. The Germans have launched a very heavy bombardment, but no infantry attack, so far as the dispatches carry us, has as yot developed. A big battle i 9 reported to have been begun on the Italian front, but there is very little information about it, and what there i 6 of a definite kind comes from tho Austrian side. The Gormans are reported to have defeatel the Eed Army in Finland and taken several thousand prisoners. The enemy idso has advanoed in the Ukraine territory and in tho Crimea. Mr. Archibald Hurd, the naval writer, discloses tho British plans for a new uffensivo against the U-boats, this time by an extended use of the minefield, for the purpose of blocking the U-boat exits. Internal affairs both in Germany and Austria are at an acute tension.
