FRUITGROWERS CONFER
By TelcEraph—Press Association. Auckland, May 2. The annual conference of the Fruitgrowers' Association opened to-day. The Mayor (Mr. J. R. Guiison) welcomed tho delegates. Mr. Mooman, representing tho American Department of Industries and Commerce, gave an address in which he explained tho methods of packing and grading and marketing adopted in America. He said there was no reason why American and New Zealand interests should clash, and advised the Dominion growers to send a. representative to America to investigate the possibilities of a market. Tho conference adopted remits by tho directors: "That the federation consist of registered societies, companies, and bodies composed of at least 75 per cent, of bona-fide fruitgrowors holding not less than 60 per cent, of the shares or capital " "That Rule 20 bo amended to read 'That the profits and revonue of the fed : oration may bo applied to any lawful purpose which a general meeting shall determiuo upon;'" , A remit ,that the Government bo asked to amend the regulations under the Act to allow fruit iufeeted with black spot to be received in factories, moved by a, Moutere delegate, was withdrawn Remits were carried urging the Government to establish horticultural stations in the Nelson, Otago, and North Auckland districts, and supporting the immediate establishment of a central scnool of horticulture.
