WAIRARAPA NOTES
Play on the Carterton bowling green ceased for tho season on Saturday last, mid the green is now being top-dressed. There was a good attendance of members at the annual meeting of the South AYairarapa shooting and fishing licenseholders, held at Greytown during the week. Mr. loppein presided, and save a short account of the eommitteo's work fur tho preceding twelve months. Attention had been given to restocking the stream, 00,000 brown trout, fry having been liberated. On the closing of the Paraparaumu Game Farm a batch .of pheasants had' been sent io the committee, and,successfully liberated, propertyowners undertaking to see that they were not molested. Attention was drawn to the fact that poachers were active on the lake, and the matter lias been reported to the ranger. The increase of opossums was discussed, and it was decided to recommend that the society liuve- an open season for taking them, subject to proper restriction and fees. A committee for thb ensuing season was circled as under:—Messrs. E. O. Ijeppeln i (chairman), P. C. Brockett (secretary and I treasurer). AY. H. Baskiville (auditor), AV. J. O'Meara, E. Hawker, P. M'Holm, IT. AViildeii, K. B. Hawkins. T. T)unn, junr., It. Clarke, AY. Benton, T. Skipage, A. AYright, and P. M'Allum. Mr. leppein was appointed representative for Buii Hi 'YVainirapa on tho council. The chairman (Miv'AY. Perry) lias been appointed to represent tho AYairarapa South County Council on the executive of the AYairarapa Patriotic Association. Tlie Department of Public AVorta has ad'vised tho AYairarapa. South Countv i Council that Mr. L. G. Iteid, S.M., has been apopinted commissioner to inquire into and adjust the apportionment of the cost of the proposed new bridge over the AVaingawa Kivor. The AYairarapa South County Council has decided to write the Mastertou County Council, asking if "the proposed conference of local bodies was to be Jiekl, and when, and also stating that tats (council expects the Mastertou county to organise the evidence to be presented io the commissioner.
