9 REPORTS OF AEROPLANES. Speaking in tho Federal House of Representatives on April 21 Mr. Riloy (N.S.W.) directed tlie attention of the Prime Minister to published statements regarding a serious danger lo Australia. Mr. Hughes: For obvious reasons I am unable to supply any particulars beyond stating that steps have wen taken to deal with this matter. Mr. Riley. Is there any truth in tho rumour? Mr. Hughes: 1 cannot say anything further. The following telegram was published bv the Sydney "Morning Herald" from it's Melbourne correspondent—"Speaking in reference to various leports oi aeroplanes having been soon in certain places in Victoria, the Minister of Defence stated that thfc public should note tho following facts in relation to distinguishing marks:—All British and Australian aeroplanes are visibly marked with threo concentric circles of colour—red, white; and blue. German 'planes are marked with large black crosses in tho shape of the 'iron cross.' Priyatelyowned 'planes are not so marked, and such marking on thorn would be illegal. Any German or other subject using an unmarßcd 'plane, or one with British Markings, is ,-übjoot to the penalty of a spy. It is important that all information regarding the novomouts of aeroplanes should be given at once to the nearest military office or the police, and that not only should the markings be dfscrfhed,» but the cate and time, direction from and to, sound, and if [ possible sketch of outline."
