ALL DAY OF PRAYER

The all day of prayer arranged by the Wellington Council of Churches was held yesterday in St. John's Church. Tho meeting began at 10 a.m., unci continued till 9 p.m. It was divided into sessions of one hour each, and this leaders of the sessions were the Hon. J. 0. \V. Aitkcu, Mr. C. M. Luke, Revs. l)r. Elliott, Gibb, Chapman, Drake, Hunt, Kobertson Orr, Shiver, and (he Salvation .Arm.,'. There was not much in the way ot ad-dress-making, though Mr. Aitken, at tho opening session, explained the naturo and purpose of the meeting, and a leader occasionally said a word or two appropriate to the time. At the closing session, Dr. Gibb, in a brief address, sot forth tlio significance of the gatherings, and promised further meetings of a similar character. The attendance was large, seldom fewer than ono hundred being present, inereasin" to many hundreds at the more suitable hours. In (he evening the ''hiin-li was filled, and altogether close on 1000 people were counted as attending at the various sessions. The meetings were, characterised by great earnestness, .and the prayers, while they touched on all phases of the crisis now upon the nation, centred chiefly in our need of re.ppnianen and of tho help and blessing of the Most High. ________
