THE CANADIAN BUDGET. (Roc. May 1, 10.30 p.m.) Ottawa, April 30. lu introducing the Canadian Budget, Mr. MacLcan, Acting-Minister of Finance, said that Canada's revenue was ■£52,000,000, being an increase of .£5,000,000 over tho previous year. The excess of income over expenditure cave .£10,000,000 towards war expenditure. A new loan would bo floated later in tho year to cover additional war cost, il'lie maintenance of tho land and fea forces was now costing £70,00(1,000 a year. Tho Budget provides for a tax levy on tho Canadian Pacific Railway amounting to ,£14,000,000, an increase in the business profits war tax, a largo augmentation of tho income tax, reducing incomes liable to JE2OO for. single persons and 4SJOO for the married. Higher super-taxes on all incomes are provided. Mr. Mac Lean pointed out that tho Government was etrictly conscripting wealth. —Ans.-N.Z. Cablo Assn.
