Mr. Donald Sutherland, of Mill'ord Sound, mentions in a letter to the •■Otago Daily Times" that about 10 o'clock on a night in January last, the exact date not being mentioned, a strong, clear searchlight was visible for about five minutes at tlie entrance of tho sound. The light then disappeared for some ten minutes, after which it was thrown for about two miles up tlie sound, being visible on this occasion for eight or ton minutes. The night was fine and calm.
