YESTERDAY'S MEETING.

A meeting called by the Mayoress (Mrs. J. I. Luke) -for tlie purpu.se of organising various mutters in connection with the lied and Blue Artillery Battle (Red Jersey Appeal), which begins on Friday, was held in the Concert Chamber of tho Town Hall yesterday afternoon. Mrs. Luke presided, and among those who wero present were representatives of several of the women's organisations in Wellington who are ougaged in patriotic work. Ladies'' Auxiliary, Commercial Travellers, St. John Ambulance Brigade, St. John Ambulance Association, the Y.W.C.A., the N.Z. Natives Association, the Women's National Reserve, the suburbs Kilbirme ana 11alaitai (represented by Mrs. Clark), and the Citizens' Service League. _ Adjutant Hosting (Salvation Army), raid that the organisation lie represented would supply 100 collectors. It was arranged that tho Town Hall should bo at the disposal of the collec- ; tors, and collection-boxes would lie j ready oil Thursday at 5 o'clock. Those i who preferred to get them later could I obtain them on Friday morning. Tho following stations were allotted:— ; Commercial Travellers, Bank of New ('Zealand; Mrs. Preston (St. John AmI bulance Brigade), Post Oifice; Y.M.C.A., I Boulcott Street; Y.W.C.A., Kirkcaldio j and Stains; Hataitai and Kilbirnie workers, Courtenay Place; Women's National Reserve, Lindsay's Cornor to Mee's ! Steps; Citizens' Service League, Winder's corner; N.Z. Natives' Association, Veitch and Allen's corner; Countess ot Liverpool Fund, Government Buildings; the Press (bridges), Kelburn Avenue. Mr. Rasev (organiser of tho Blue and Red Battle") asked for volunteers to make red and blue flags, theso to be attached to motor-cars whose owners had "done their bit." Tho badges would exempt pedestrians from further solicitation. It was decided that a working bee would bo hold on Wednesday afternoon at the Town Hall.' Apologies for their unavoidable absence were received from Mrs. W. I. Massey, Mrs. Moorhouse, Mrs. \\. Nathan, and Mrs. Blundell, wlio all, however, promised assistance.
