Strange adventures in the air have befallen many airmen during the war, out the strangest must surely be that of Flight-Commander A. M. Waistell, R.N.A.S. He bumped into a mountain without seeing it! The story is told in a dry. official way in the Gazette, winch announces that he has been awarded tho D.S.O. "for the determination and pluck shown by liini in carrying out a bombing raid on 'Chanak on the night of October 17 1917. In spite of the fact that there was no moon and that the weather conditions mere so adverse that othor pilots were unable to reach the objective, he succeeded in reaching Chanak and uioppir' his bombs. On the return journey he "iiit the side of a mountain, being unable to see it on account of tho darkness, the machine catching fire on crashing. Although severely injured about tho face and knee, he was able to climb out of the machine, and eventually reached the aerodrome, having ridden ten miles over extremely rough country with a badly-lacerated knee."
The Methusaleh of Norv;av lins recently died at the age uf 121 vears. The man was a hard smoker, and was a fisherman by occupation, ne married for the third ti'me at the ago of !'S, his wile being 30 years his junior. She died a few months before him.
