The Baby Competition, ,"A nieotilig of the Baby Competition Gomuritteo was held at Miss l'Yaser's yesterday afternoon. Mrs. W. 1\ Jlassey lirosideu, and' in addition to members ol' the General Committee, Messrs. Manton, Bayfield, and J, Luke were present. Various matters of organisation were discussed, and Mrs. Dawson proposed that the persoiinol of tlio executive bo cnliirgetl, and that it .should consist of Mrs. Massey, Miss Eraser, Mrs. Gray, Dr. Platts-Mills, tlio Mayor (Mr. ,1. p. Luke), Mr. Manton, and Mr. Baylieid. Mrs. X'anKuirst seconded the motion, wiucli was carried.

It was pointed out at the meeling that every baoy that has been nominated must have a committee to run its candidature. This committee (or sub-commit-pL') must'consist of at least a secretary, treasurer, and the baby's nominator. 31 ore members can be added if desired, but the three already mentioned must be included on every sub-committee.

Previous to 'attending yesterday's meeting tho three gentlemen who have consented to assist the General Committee conferred together in the Mayor's room of the Town Hall. At this 'meeting it was deemed expedient (a) that the ballotboxes should be cleared every Mondav, Wednesday, and Friday of each week, the contents of the boxes to be placed in a lock-tip box at the committee's headquarters' office, 360 Lamhton Quay; (b) that the lady in cliargo of the finance of each baby group deliver tho cash takings to the treasurer at the headquarters office betwen tho hours of 11 a.m., and 12 noon on 31onday, Wednesday, and Friday of each week; (c) a statement of the voting strength of each baby to bo available for tho ladies' executive on the mornings of Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday of each week. These suggestions were put into tho, form of a motion, and formally adopted by the meeting. Tho candidates, nominated will bo screened on Wednesday at tho threo picture theatres, King's, Everybody's, and Empress. Red Cross Acknowledgments. Our correspondent writes that the first annual report of tho Carterton branch of tho Ladies' .Auxiliary of tho A'avy League shows that, the branch was formed in .April of last year, tho officers ■ appointed- being: Patron, Mrs. W. H. ■ .Htioth; president, Mrs. D. CI. Johnston,' vice-presidents, Mrs. Gunn and Mrs, J. Jones; treasurer, Mrs. H. E. Jackson; secretary, Miss Wilson. During tho year Mrs. Jackson resigned from her position, and .Miss Wilson was appointed in her stead. The branch has an adult membership of 85 and a school branch at Clarevillo of 30 members. During the year tho Presbyterian Sunday School has. been placed at the auxiliary's nso free of charge. During M«y a concert resulted in the funds profiting to tho'extent of cfi-tG (is. 9d., and in September a'lecture oil tho JMavy, given by Mr. IS. Darroch, of Wellington, assisted the funds to tho extent of .£3 as. 3d. ,A children's fancy- | dress dance, organised by Mesdames Birss and Cole, benefited the league to tlio extent of =£15 Is. 9d. In NovemDw a special effort in Carrington Park for "Sailors' Day" enabled .£l2O (proceeds from the fete) to bo forwarded to tho Jung George's Fund for Sailors. A donation of JIIO was made each to the Y.M.C.A. and Salvation Army's special efforts, it being recognised tlmt both these institutions do much for 6ailors when they are in port. Tho members luado the following garments during tho year, assisted jdso by sympathisers:— Balaclavas, 28; oaps, 13; pairs socks, 18; pairs mittens, 21; vests, 0: shirts, 10; blanket mufflers, 21; face cloths, G. A class for spinning was formed during tho year, Mesdames Anderson, Petersen, and Wilson, and Mr. Jensen very kindly acting as teachers. Wool was carded, spun, and knitted up. The branch has a credit balance of <CSB 15s. lid.

Women's National Reserve, Mrs. Porter (hon. organising secretary Wellington National Reserve.) has returned from her northern tour, having fulfilled a promise to visit Auckland on reserve business. At the invitation of that executive she went up to attend the annual meeting and comer upon reserve matters affecting the general Women's National Reserve work ol' the Dominion. The annual meeting held on April It was well attended, and some important resolutions wero passed, among tlp'm the one offering the services, of the branch to the Government should women bo conscripted, and another that a Women's National Reserve Dominion council bo formed, and that to further this a conference bo held at an early dale. The previous day Mrs. Porter was welcomed at an afternoon tea given by rho Women's National Reserve executive, and afterwards a conference was held, at which many matters of local and general importance wero discussed.

At a special meeting held on the following Saturday plans for more fully extending the work in the Auckland military district wero discussed. It was decided to invite Jlrs. Porter to visit any sub-centres.possible to foster and organise the work. On Monda}', April 15, the branch at the Thames was visited. This was formed at the. same time as the men's, and exceedingly fino work has been done there. Members have been specially supporting tho lied Cross, to whom they send .i'ls monthly, also a large number of garments. St. Dunstau's and Dr. Parkes's special comforts fund aro also assisted. Paeroa was visited next: day, and a branch of the Women's National Reserve was formed.

Another meeting of the executive and medical servico division was held in Auckland on Thursday, April 18, and on the next afternoon a meeting of the hon. members was held. Tho latter'decided to be organised specially for social work, the main object being the reunions for tho mothers, wives, and families of fighting men. , .

On Monday, April 22, Mrs. Porter visited Hamilton, and was met t>v the Deputy-Mayoress, and shown the conditions existing there with regard to women's labour, a large number of women boing employed in dairying in the (lis-t-riot. Next morning a meeting was held, and ft branch of the reserve was ,formed. On the same day Rotorua was visited. Mr. Hill (tho Government Resident Officer) and Mrs. Hill were greatly interested in the movement, and also Mr.s. Teape, (he lied Cross and Patriotic secretary, and they will call a meeting at an cariy dato to form a branch of the Women's National Reserve. On the following Thursday 'J'e Awamutu was visited, and on Friday the Mayoress convened a meeting, at which it was decided to form a branch. Feilding Notes. Mrs. Guy (Wellington) is staying at the Denbigh liotel. Mr.s. Kuvunagli has roturned from Auckland. Mrs. iiilcs has returned from Wellington. Mrs. Gorton has relumed from AYangunui. Mrs. Ililchiiigs has returned from Wellington. Mrs. Huys (llawko's Bay) has been spending a few days in town. , Miss Taylor (Auckland) is lliu guest of Mrs. Barton. Miss Millar has returned from AVcllington. ivlrs. Myers is in Wellington. Miss .Brown has returned after a short visit to Wellington. A big day was held at the Patriotic Shop on Friday, the. proceeds being devoted to the Returned Soldiers' Club. A concert held in the Drill Hall was crowded, and a particularly good programme whs presented. It is hoped that tho result of the day's work will prove to bo soveral hundred pounds. Among those in the audience were Mesdames Weymouth, Walker, Barton, Ongley, Millar, Wheeler, Bull, Woollam, Bra'mwell, Burrell, Connellio, Christee, Misses Weymouth, Woollam, Millar, Walker, Folcii, Burrell, Cobbe, Young, Elliott, and Livesen.
