SEDITIOUS UTTERANCES
FIJIAN NATIVES SENTENCED. By Teleerarh—Press Association. Auckland, April 29. Sentences of niprisonment for terms ranging from one to eighteon months have been passed on 15 or 16 i ?s ian natives arrested on charges of seditious utterances. For some time past tliere has been apparent a slight spirit of unrest amongst tho natives, particularly those of the hill districts. The principal offender was Sailosi, a man about 60 years of a"e Ho circulated statements to the effect that tho King of England had abdicated and been succeeded by the lvaiser, that the present local rulers representing Britain had been deposed, and that no more 'taxes were to bo mvposed. According to Sailosi a new religion, known as "Number Eight," was to established, this title being derived from the fact that it followed the Seventh Day Advontisis' doctrines. the main feature of the new religion was Saturday and Sunday days of rest. The disaffection aroused appears to havo ceased.
