ON KEEPING "FIT"
London, April 28. Sir Thomas Mackenzie, High Commissioner for J7ew Zealand, in opening n new club at Torquay for the benefit of unfit New Zoalanders, said that the war had brought duties to everybody. It was the soldiers' duty to keep fit, and it was the duty of the War Contingent Association, the R«d Cross, the High Commissioner, and the military authorities to care for tho 6ick and wounded and provide soldiers with wholesome amusemonta and recreations. Tho soldiers must resist temptations i.aiculated to reduce their efficiency. It was the duty of the higher authorities to keop the country clean and removo all possible temptations to save the soldiers, but thoir duty did not go to tho extent of licensing vice or of supporting kindred proposals which wore contrary to the ideals of the people.—Aus.-N.Z.
