DEATH OF KING OF TONGA

News was received last night that King George Tubou II of Tonga died of tuberculosis at his island homo on April 5. Ho was buried in state on the following Wednesday. Tho king was 44 years of age, and had been ailing for some time. Death came suddenly as the king was rising from his bed. The king's daughter, Princess Salote, or Charlotte, was proclaimed queen on April G. Tho new queen was tho only daughter of tho late king's first wife, and is about 18.1 years .-f age. Sho was educated at. tho Diocesan School, Auckland. Queen Salote married the prince-consort, William Tugi, a few months ago. Tugi was present at the coronation of King George V, of England, as representative of Tonga, and the ceremony had a great impression upon his mind.
