FTATEMENT BY JAPANESE CONSULGENERAL. By Telegraph—Press Association. Auckland, April 2?. The Japanese Consul-Gencral in Australia, the Hon. Seizaburo Shimizu, who is on his first official visit to New Zealand, said ho brought from tho people, of Japan a message expressing cordial friendship and good will towards tho people of New Zealand, and the sincere nope of his countrymen that peaceful commercial relations will continue to grow without hindrance, and that the two countries may co-operate for the furtherance of peaco \thronghout the Pacific. Since tho outbreak of the war the Japanese imports into. New Zealand had increased five or six times. He emphasised that Japan was not merely seeking an outlet for her own goods, but markets for New.i Zealand products. The trade between Australia and Japan was in favour of the former by three to two. The visitor referred to the rapid development of shipbuilding in Japan. Asked what was tho attitude of his Government towards Germany's Pacific possessions, Sir. Shimizu replied: "No official pronouncement lias yet been made, but it is strong in the determination of the Japanese nation that tho island possessions taken from Germany shall not be returned."
