I RATIONING SYSTEM WORKING ;. AVELL. ! In a special dispatch to His Excellency the Governor-General of New Zealand, the Secretary of State for the Colonies states:— "The Food Ministry reports that the ] national meat rationing scheme is working as smoothly throughout the country i as the local scheme previously worked in ! London and home counties; and the 'rationing of.tea is under consideration; . Tho improved weather encourages hopes regarding Home meat supply, and tho : improved milk yield is satisfactory, enabling a greatly-needed increased ration of fats. The improved sugar imports are being utilised as stock .against winter period of short supplies. There has been no increase in bread consumption, but increased imports of ccreajs aru ur--1 gently needed, and also cheese." j "The congestion on Hie railways tends I to throw a greater burden on transport I by road and canal, and depleted n.an 'power increases the difficulties oNthe ! railways. The Board'of Trado is lack--1 ling both problems through the Canal Control Committoe and Ttond Transport Board, by promoting most economical vse of boats and vehicles to meet requirejments of food and munition transport.
