The news from the Western front to-day is less favourable, and there fa a general agreement of opinion in. tho various dispatches that the .. acute phase of the enemy's latest effort in Flanders has been reached. Kemmel has not yet been retaken from the Germans, though the British .7 hope to do so. Villers Bretonneux—of some tactical importance—is still in our hands. The issues now rest upon the qualities of pluck and endurance, and, says one commentator, the victory lies with the side having the last reserves. Ijvery man, it is stated in one dispatch, is urgently needed, and adverse comment is passed by Mr. William Murdoch upon the.way in which Australian reinforcements have dwindled. j j | i j ■
