WAR BURSARIES
ABUSES Oi' TRAVELLING ALLOW-' ANCES. The College Governors at • yesterday's meeting received the following letter (dated April 23) from the Secretary of the Education Department:— f "War llursaries —In connection with applications for war bursaries forwarded to the Department on behalf of eligibly free-place holders in attendance nt high schools, district high schools, or technical high schools, tho Department hopes to notify tho awards shortly.. It is renuested that the same steps should bo taken to assist the Department in preventing abuses'in regard to claims for boarding allowance and travelling expenses of holders of war bursaries, as is done in the ease of scholarship holders, and that inquiries should be made from time to time to seo if any bursars have become ineligible for allowances through change of residence either .of themselves or of their parents. .' •» .
