At Wangamii in February ho won the Plyiug Handicap with Sat. 31b., and on tho second day finished within a head of Croesus, 9st. 31b., when carrying 9st. Sinco then Orocsus has won twico with 9st. 131b., while Koesian has finished third in tho -ereat Kaster Handicap. Howover, sinco then he. has been raced over ten furlongs and is probably not at his best at present. Though there has been a substantial weeding-ont in tho listß for the Hawke's Bay Jockey Club's Autumn Meeting, the holds aro ot sufficient dimensions lo en suro high-elass racing. Twenty stand their ground m the Hawke's Bay Cup, with Client in the position of top-weight. Thero are several promising sorts amongst the light-weights The Yaldhurat trainer, H. The meeting of Fiumark and Hymestra 'in the Hawke's Bay Stakes on Saturday i-.ext is being looked forward to with a lot of interest. That tho former is a, really first-class two-year-old admits of no doubt, hut in moasuring strides with the brilliant Hymestra over six furlongs he will be thoroughly tried out. Both colts will havo to put up the maximum penalty of 141b. As there are several useful two-year-olds engaged that have not incurred penalties it will be no surpriso to find both tho colts named beaten. 1 It is stated that Mr. T. H. Lowry purchased tho stallion Finland in the hope that he would sire another horso equal to Bobrikofl. The Bill of Portland horse lias not done bo yet, but he has produced fistland and Finmark, and thero is no saying how tho latter will yet turn out. Finmark, who stands to-day as the best two-year-old in New Zealand, is a wellbred colt, as his dam, Warscare, was by .Martian-Gossip, by Wallace-Caroline. At tho recent Royal Agricultural Show in Sydney, Emu Plains cleared 7ft. lm. in the high jumping competition, making a, record for tho Sydney Show Ground, the previous best being Landlocks vft.
