RED JERSEY APPEAL
CONTINUOUS PADDY'S MASKED The success achieved by tic Paddy's Market which was held last week in aid of the Bed Jersey appeal, was so gratifying that the Citizens' Committee has decided to hold a continuous Paddys Market in a Bhop in Willis Street during the. period of the Bed Jersey appeal. The. situation of this shop is next to Mr. ii. D. Bennett's stores, and citizens are requested to send to that address suitable articles for sale, such as fancy goods, groceries, vegetables, jewellery, clothing., boqts, produce,-etc; ' A grand entertainment is to bo held ur. the Town Hall on Wednesday next, under the patronage of His Excellency the.Gov-. cruor-General. Some-exceptional talent; will be included in the programme, which is advertised ns being an all-star-As part of the reserves of tho Blue Artillery, the Civil Servants' big gun.promises to play a lively part. ' It is of hvrge calibre, and intense muzzle velocity, and it will eat up ammunition at a prodigious rate. •' To meet this demand a really live committee has been formed, whose duty it will be to collect ammunition to make up each charge or 'moneyshell." In view of the activity which is being displayed by'gun crews in outlying" areas, the city guns are concentrating their energies upon accumulating huge ammunition "dumps" composed of live shell. So that when tho duel begins in earnest the; firing will be fast and fur.i- --- - . ,i ,i -ir The time is coming when all men will have to declare whether they are Wucs or reds-as men did in the Wars of the Roses, onlv, in this instance, to be used instead of roses. Hauling parties aTe being trained in their work, and when tho guns begin firing theso parties will swoop upon unsuspecting enemy suburbs, where they will play the double parts of raiders and "moppersup." Only those wearing red or binebadges will be exempted—all others will be treated as armed non-combatants, and held to ransom. Badges may lie . purchased now.
