HELPING PRISONERS IN GERMANY.

Few people realise the international character of tho work of the Salvation Army, for whose war funds the Red Jersey appeal is now being made throughout New Zealand. At tho same time some have asked what has become of the branches of the Salvation Army in enemy countries, especially Germany. It is now stated authoritatively that splendid work is being accomplished still in the 'enemy countries. Many thousands of our own boys have reason to be thankful to men of the Red Jersey in Germany Through the neutral countries of Switzerland antf Holland a connection has linked" up the organisation's workers in Germany. Thousands of pounds frorth of f.omforts aro being dispatched to New Zealand prisoners of war by the medium of this connection. So that subscribers to the Red Jersey funds are helping, soldiers both in front m<l behind the German firing-line. _ The Battle of Comforts has begun. 11ns is a spectacular arUllery duel which lias been organised by ■ the Red Jersey appeal. Tho first shot was fired fioin neutral ground, to wit. Paddy's Market, by combinod Red' and Blue (runners, who have now hastened to their respective battle areas in readiness for the bombardment of "money shells," which tloy will shortly focus upon tho Red Jersey coffers. . , A special long-range gun U».s been placed in position in Hawke s Bay, aid will shortly walco a definite attempt to bombard Wellington. At least, it will shake the capital up literally. The capital city is same, however, and her short-range artillery will begin to peppci the Red Jersey, headnuarters with "money shells."
