SCHOOL ELECTIONS
ADDITIONAL REPORTS. The following additional . reports of school election meetings held on Monday night ai-o to hand:— JL'otono District High School.—Tho report of tho Pctono District High School Committee showed that recoipts for the year wero ,£lßl 11s. 3d., the expenditure .£lsl 10s. 3d., and tho bank balance .£3O 3s. Gd. The following were elected to .tho committee:—Messrs. D. M'Kenzie (chairman), Oscar Silbery (secretary), J. J. Abrahnll, D. M'Callum, Thomas Ashby, xl. It. Kirk, 1. A. Armstrong, J. Kyle, and P. L. Matthews.
Petono West.—Thero was a representative meeting of householders at tho Petono West School. The annual report stated that the attendance at tho school was increasing rapidly. For 1917 it was 430, and the average number 386. For the first quarter of tho present year the average attendance was AS2, and the average roll 521. Tho following were elected a committee-.—Messrs. J. G. Castle (chairman), J. Cotton, H. J. Hoyiward (secretary), H. C. Jay, A. M'Bean, 11. A. Morris, G. Parker, W. H. Shardlow, and J. Thompson. _ Hutt District High School-Tho following wore elected a committoo for the ensuing year of' tho Hutt District High School:—Messrs. E. P. Rishworth (chairman). J. IV. M'Dougall,, A. West, 11. Kyle, W. Meldrum, J. J. Doran, W. A. Alexander, J. Wray, and W. L. Smith (secretary). There was (a -sparse attendance of parents. Tho chairman (Mr. ,E. P. Rishworth), in presenting his annual report, stated that the finances of tho school wero in a sound condition, tho credit balance amounting to J&l 10s. Eastern Ilutt.-At Eastorn Hutt Mr. Baldwin presided, when the reports wero adopted without amendinout. A ballot Tesultod in tho election to tho committee of Messrs. Aneon. Baldwin, Clendon, Frethey, Hardy, Heyes, Huthnance, Treseder, and Trim. At a subsequent corainitteo meeting Mr. Baldwin, chairman, and Mr. Huthnanco, secretary, were re-elected.
Muritai—The meeting at Muritai was the largest and most enthusiastic meeting ever held in the district. About. 800 persons wore present, ami thero not being sufficient accommodation in the Bchool an adjournment had to be made to tho Eastbourne Hall. Thoro were sixteen nominations for tho committee, and the Ratepayers' Association ticket of seven members was, elected by an overwhelming, .majority. Tho name's are as follow :-Messrs. H. L. Wright (chairman), H. G. Mayer, S. L. Partridge, H. Ahoarn, C. CI. W- Richards, R. ,E. Manley, and S. H. Jonkinsoii. B. J. "Wiffin presided at the Wadeetown meeting, which was poorly ntteruled. Tho report of tho committee stated that the new. school, which has been opened less than two years, was hardly adequate for requirements, and the question of extension would have to be faced in tho near future. Tho report and balance-sheet were adopted, and a vote of thanks was passed to tho headmaster (Mr. C.'B. Joplin) and his assistants for their good work. Tho following committee was elected:—Messrs. E. J.- Wiffin (chairman), A. Parlano (secretary), G. Player, H. Owen, AV. Prince, J. E. Bass, and Mrs. IC. Mooro. Kaiwarra.—There was only a small attendance of householders at Kaiwarra. The annual report indicated that tho work of the school during the last year was very satisfactory, Tho outgoing committee expressed regret at the apathy of many parents in regard to school matters. Tho following .committee was elected:—Meters. P. Swan (chairman), A. Newport (Secretary). W. Latimer, E. Robson, and.G. Flaws. Woraer Bay.—Tho meeting of the Worser Bay ■ householders, held in Mirainar Town llull, was the. largest in tho history of the borough. The following committee was elected:—Messrs. W. Steven, L. Norton-Taylor, W. Clifford, 11. Coombe, H. Cobke, K. J. lluggins, A. Smith, E. Kellow, W. Bardsley. Tho number shown on tlio school roll was as .follows:—Main school, 282, average attendance 2Mi; Soatoun side-school CO, average attendance hi) Miraniar siileschool 42, tivoragc attendance 37. Total SSI, average tatliMidanco M 7. Siuco 19i(j tho number on the school roll has increased by 100. The balance-sheet showed a credit of XYi 13s.
